The main jumping-off point to Cayo Arena, thousands of visitors come here daily to reach the caye and snorkel off the large coral reef just offshore. BOTANICAL PARK
Local to our old grotto is a botanical park with over 30 free-roaming squirrel monkeys. These monkeys love visitors and love to sit on shoulders, heads and feed on special plants. This is the best photo opportunity in the DR. At the bottom of the grotto is an enclosure for our rescue capuchin monkeys that have been physically or nutritionally abused. There are hundreds of other animals roaming freely throughout the park.
27 Waterfalls of Damajagua
Hidden up in a tropical canyon is a string of waterfalls that you can hike to and slide down, swim under, and jump off on your way back down. Located only 30 minutes from Puerto Plata is one of the best hidden gems in the Dominican Republic. You'll head up with a tour guide (it's required) who will help make sure you're jumping off of safe spots, might explain some of the history of these gorgeous falls (some of which have ancient legends stemming back from the Taino Indians who first discovered this gem), and from our experience will just make the adventure even more fun.
Cable Railway
It is a must-do to board in Puerto Plata’s cable railway during your visit to the Dominican Republic. This particular transport has turned into a symbol of the city, because it is one of the most famous and visited places.
This cable railway ascends to Isabel de Torres Hill, an 800 metre-high hill in the south of Puerto Plata. During your journey you can enjoy impressive views of the city and its coast. In the top of the hill, you can find the lush botanical gardens, where you can go for a nice walk, moreover, Christ the Redeemer is also on the top of this hill.
